British triathletes aiming to seal a place at next year's Commonwealth Games
by Abi Moses on Thursday 2nd March 2017, 10:13am.
After changing coaches and moving back to Britain, Jodie Stimpson is back on track and ready to take on a new season in Abu Dhabi.
Following a six-month layoff due to an injury, Stimpson is eager to drive on and compete again. The triathlon competitor’s Achilles injury forced her to pull out of the Olympic games in Rio.
"Missing Rio was absolutely devastating," she said. "It's the worst thing I've had to go through.
The 28-year-old missed the Olympic and the 2014 Commonwealth Games, and so this knock back really struck the athlete hard. She’s now set her eyes on qualification for the 2018 Commonwealth Games. It’s been reported that she’s set this as a resolution and a definite priority. Friday’s World Triathlon series in Abu Dhabi is where she will be making her come-back and will be the ultimate test for Stimpson.
Having now moved home from the French Alps, it’s said she’s officially back on track and is looking forward to training with her new coach, Ben Bright, at home for the first time in for eight years.
She’s described last winter as slow and there’s hope things are finally getting back on track now she’s back in Loughborough.
"It was definitely a slower progression than I'm used to but things have finally started to come together and I'm excited to get out there and start the season off."
In regards to male competitors, Gordon Benson, Adan Bowden, Tom Bishop, Marc Austin and Gordon Sheldon are just a few that are also trying to grab a spot at the Commonwealths. Each of these athletes will be striving for extreme success in the near future while competing for qualifications for the eight-race series.
The 2018 Commonwealth Games are set to start on the 4th April and conclude on the 15th April. You can bet throughout the World Triathlon Series or the Commonwealth Games by simply registering with one of the Betting Codes betting partners.
