Tottenham Hotspur travel to Selhurst Park tonight in one of three Premier League fixtures taking place. Spurs are looking to cut the gap between them and leaders, Chelsea, down to four points with a win. Stood in their way is a Crystal Palace team buoyed by a fantastic display against Liverpool on Saturday, and unbeaten in three games including an emphatic 3-0 victory over Arsenal and a 2-2 draw with champions, Leicester City, both at home.
Spurs are on a seven-game winning streak in the Premier League and will strive to be in the best possible position should the Chelsea team they are chasing drop any points. The Blues showed them exactly what they were up against when the two sides met in their recent FA Cup semi-final encounter, with Antonio Conte’s men running out well deserved 4-2 winners. The win could give Chelsea and psychological edge back in the Premier League.
Palace sit 12th in the Premier League with 38 points, which gives them a 7 point buffer and a game in hand over the Swansea City team currently sitting in the drop zone. Manager, Sam Allardyce, won’t be counting his chickens just yet and will be looking to capitalise on their recent good form and seize any points that are available to guarantee Premier League survival.
Arsenal find themselves in a position where not qualifying for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in Arsene Wenger's tenure at the club is a major possibility. Arsenal currently 7th in the Premier League trailing fourth-placed Manchester City by seven points. The Gunners have a game in hand over City but anything other than wins from now until the end of the season will see Arsenal's run of 20 years finishing in the top four come to an end.
Tonight’s encounter sees champions, Leicester City, travel to The Emirates with Craig Shakespeare’s Foxes looking to guarantee top flight football next season. Leicester are currently sat in 15th but have two games in hand over their closest rivals and are already 6 points above the drop zone.
The final game of the evening is a massive 'six-pointer' at the bottom of the table between North East rivals Middlesbrough and Sunderland. Bottom club Sunderland travel to the Riverside with an abysmal record of 12 losses in their last 14 away games, Middlesbrough manager Steve Agnew’s counter argument to that is his team are on a run of 16 Premier League games without a win, including 10 losses.
