Real Madrid take a commanding 3-1 lead into the second leg of their Spanish Super Cup clash with Barcelona, but talisman, Cristiano Ronaldo, will sit out Wednesday's game as he serves the first of a five-game suspension.
Ronaldo restored Real Madrid's lead in the first leg but received a booking for removing his shirt during the celebrations and just two minutes later he was off! The referee adjudged Ronaldo to have dived in a come-together with Barcelona defender, Samuel Umtiti. A disgruntled Ronaldo proceeded to shove the ref and received a five-game ban.
Even without their star forward, Madrid will go in to Wednesday's game at the Bernabeu as firm favourites to lift the Super Cup. In-form Isco is likely to be joined by Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema, whilst local favourite, Marco Asensio, is also pushing for a starting berth.
Barcelona struggled as they began life without Neymar. Gerard Deulofeu, re-signed from Everton, started on the left of the front three but was mainly ineffective throughout.
With confidence low at Barcelona, Deulofeu may get another chance up front as Barcelona look to ease the pressure ahead of the new season. The visitors are expected to field a full-strength team at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday whilst the hosts could choose to rotate their squad slightly. Theo Hernandez is expected to start at left back and Asensio, Lucas Vasquez and Nacho could all feature from the start.
